About Koha

Koha is an open source Integrated Library System (ILS).its development is steered by a growing community of libraries collaborating to achieve their technology goals.

Koha is the world's first Free/Libre Open Source Integrated Library System. Originally made in New Zealand by the Horowhenua Library Trust and Katipo Communications Ltd, the Koha system is a full catalogue, opac, circulation, member management, serials, and acquisitions package.

It has all of the basic features needed to run a library, handling:

  • an online public access catalogue (OPAC) of the library's holdings;
  • a database of library users;
  • issuing books to borrowers and returning books to the collection;
  • borrower requests for library items;
  • orders from vendors;
  • book budgets;
  • transfers between library branches;
  • management of subscriptions to periodical publications;
